Motorcycle handlebars: tube, fatbar, conical and clamp
The handlebar is the connection between the rider and the steering, a frequently replaced part after a fall or due to ergonomic preference. Motorcycle handlebars are classified by diameter (22 mm standard tube, 28.6 mm fatbar oversize), by geometry (straight cross, semi-dropped naked, ape hanger custom), and by material (forged steel, anodized aluminum 7075-T6, tapered aluminum type Pro Taper).

How to choose the right handlebar
Check the central diameter in mm where the clamp seats (typically 22 mm for standard tube or 28.6 mm for fatbar). If your motorcycle has oversize fatbar, you need reducers 28.6→22 mm if you want to mount grips and controls for 22 mm tube. Measure the total width desired (700-800 mm cross/MX, 750-850 mm naked, 600-700 mm sport semi). The elbow height (rise) defines the posture: high rise = comfortable upright posture; low rise = sporty aerodynamic posture.
Material and features
Forged steel: heavy but economical, plastically deforms in a fall without breaking. Aluminum 7075-T6lightweight, rigid, shears cleanly in high impact falls (better for off-road). Aluminum cone (Twinwall, Contour): double wall in high-stress areas (center). 30% stronger with similar weight. Carbon: road racing only, off-road use prohibited due to fragility of fiber.
Compatibility and Installation
Check your motorcycle's machining pattern: cross MX models have a 4-bolt T-type fixed clamp. Naked and custom models have an adjustable riser. Typical handlebar clamp torque is 22 Nm. Always replace the anti-vibration tape (vibrators) under the clamp to prevent fatigue cracks. Data conform ISO 6695 (motorcycle handlebar) and SAE J209.
