Regulator / rectifier with MOSFET technology

      Replacement in original quality

This new technology has renewed the concept of the three-phase stair regulator. For many years, these devices have used Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCRs) to direct excess power from the generator to ground to keep the battery voltage constant.

This has been widely accepted and has been found to be suitable for small to medium size generators in internal combustion engines. However, new MOSFET-based regulator technology is becoming more and more popular due to its better performance and many other interesting advantages over SCR.

The power requirement in modern motorcycles and ATVs is increasing today due to the use of additional electronic modules such as injection systems, high-efficiency lighting, numerous accessories, etc. This means that a large amount of power is coming from the generator and the SCR bypass regulator cannot regulate it.

The main reason is low energy efficiency, the internal losses of the regulator cause overheating and premature damage if currents greater than 35A are passed through the regulator. As a result, SCR technology has reached a limit and is therefore not recommended for large vehicles with high energy consumption.

To solve the problem mentioned above, it was necessary to reduce the losses in the circuit. When the SCR is active (generator current to ground), there is a high voltage drop in the forward direction (approximately 1.5V at 35A) because it functions as a power diode. If the current increases, the power loss (eg heat) increases in parallel.

      DEVICE POWER LOSS (W) = THROUGH CURRENT (A) X VOLTAGE DROP (V)

      Benefits:

      - HIGH ENERGY EFFICIENCY THREE-PHASE SHUNT CONTROLLER

      - OUTPUT POWER UP TO 50A

      - THE PRECISE ELECTRONIC CONTROL OF THE BATTERY VOLTAGE AVOIDS MIS-IGNITION

      - LESS HEAT DEVELOPMENT TAKES LONGER LIFETIME

      - LOW POWER STANDBY MODE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT USED

Unlike other transistors, MOSFET transistors can be designed as voltage-controlled switches, because their completely different semiconductor architecture makes them more power efficient.

When in use, they behave like a low-power, high-current resistor that directs all excess current from the generator to ground. As a result, the voltage drop is very low (less than +/- 0.2V @ 35A) and power loss is drastically reduced. This has a direct effect on lower heating of the device and a long lifespan of the controller.

MOSFET technology has been continuously improved in recent years due to its wide application in consumer and industrial electronics. Semiconductor integration technology offers higher charging capacity in confined space conditions with excellent efficiency. In addition, they allow for faster switching, greater reliability, and better control under heavy loads.

Rectifier diode performance is another important factor when it comes to power dissipation. Since all the output current flows through them, they must offer great robustness and stability, as well as efficient current control. Our MOSFET regulators use enhanced high current rectifier diodes with extremely low voltage drop, which help prevent overheating and meet the aforementioned requirements.

The internal DRIVER has been completely redesigned to accommodate the requirements of the MOSFET transistor. The battery voltage is constantly monitored to adapt the output current to different consumption situations. The new electronic control system avoids the use of the ignition cable, reduces the number of connections and simplifies the cable topology. It also has low standby power consumption, resulting in very little battery drain when the vehicle is not in use.

Therefore, this new technology allows to increase the output power of the regulator to 50 A and to have an excellent voltage regulation. Additional benefits such as reduced heating, high efficiency, and advanced electronic control make this new controller the first choice for monitoring your vehicle's battery circuit.
