How is that result achieved? It is essential to replace the control unit by updating the ECM Polini “ENGINE CONTROL MODULE” with valve springs.

The replacement of the control unit is essential for any type of assembly.

Studied and fine-tuned thanks to feedback from Polini's competition department, the Polini ECU update allows you to choose between 3 different mappings, thus giving the end user the chance to further personalize their vehicle.

The addition of the valve springs inside the package allows the limiter to reach up to 10,000 engine revs with a concrete result in speed and increased performance ensuring a more dynamic and fluid ride.

Depending on the assembly steps of the scooter, it is important to match the specific mapping developed by Polini.

This is the easiest assembly step, since it is enough to remove the original control unit and fit the ECM Polini for Vespa and Liberty 50 4T Euro 5; in fact, it is a plug & play electronic control unit that is easy to install. Only replacement makes it possible to increase the rev limiter from 7,500 to 8,100 rpm.

With this mapping it is possible to keep the original Piaggio engine, but it is advisable to mount the Polini variator (241.737) and the Polini silencer (190.0079).

The Hi-Speed variator mount allows for a small increase in speed and acceleration.

To improve the efficiency of the engine, Polini suggests the installation of the Polini Original silencer: made with lines reminiscent of the original, it has a refined but discreet character. Made entirely of steel, it stands out for its incredible lightness.

With this mapping the speedometer goes from 45 km/h to 50/53 km/h.

With the second mapping, you enter the heart of personalization and take the vehicle to a higher level. It is essential to have a professional when working on the engine. First of all, it is important to know that it is necessary to change the original engine valve springs for Polini ones (already included in the control unit package), which allow the engine limiter to be raised to 10,000 rpm without valve problems.

This mapping works with the stock engine as well, but Polini recommends matching the Polini Variator (241.737), Polini Silencer (190.0079) and Polini Oversized Air Filter Sleeve (223.0131).

This process goes from 45 km/h to 56/60 km/h.

Note – To replace the springs it is necessary to disassemble the motor. With a small extra step in terms of cost, one cylinder and extended ratios can also be fitted (using the 3 mapping) with an end result of higher performance.

At this point, there is very little left to do to have a real Vespa sprint with a top speed of 70/75 km/h. If you have already done an important job with mapping 2 to get your hands on the engine for mounting the spring, with a small additional step you can configure your vehicle with mapping 3 and have a complete job at maximum performance.

In fact, it is in mapping 3 where a clear and sharp difference is perceived.

The basis for this step is the 49mm bore cylinder kit, which brings the engine up to around 80cc. (140.0223) with the Polini elongated ratios (202.1424) mandatory for an optimal result.

Performance improves both in terms of top speed and acceleration, with a determined sprint both at the start and when overtaking, and a 50% increase in top speed.

The result is a spirited character that satisfies even the most demanding Vespa aficionados who want a vehicle that is fashionable but at the same time powerful. Also with this mapping it is advisable to combine the Polini variator (241.737), the Polini silencer (190.0079) and the Polini oversized air filter sleeve (223.0131).
