Ideal for women or any diver with a shorter torso, it has an overall length of 34.3 cm, which is 3.8 cm shorter than the standard size. All features are the same as the standard plate, except that it has only one screw-hole position and the 2.5 cm crotch strap slot has been removed to save space. This plate remains 100% compatible with the Dive Rite single-cylinder adapter, all Dive Rite wings and backplate harnesses.
Based on the original Dive Rite backplates produced since 1984, this design has evolved to include new features and ergonomics suited to the modern diver. Laser-cut from 10-gauge, low-carbon, rust-resistant 316 L stainless steel, its unique shape contours to the diver’s back, while generously rounded corners prevent the plate from digging in or damaging wetsuits. All XT plates are individually hand-finished, ensuring there are no rough or sharp edges that could damage harness straps. They are then electropolished to a mirror finish and laser-etched to ensure they look as good as they perform.
The XT backplate is configured with 27.9 cm center-to-center mounting holes to accommodate standard twin-cylinder bolt kits. Two sets of 5 cm slots along the center channel allow divers to weave cam straps through the backplate for single-cylinder diving without an adapter. Two pairs of holes in the side tabs are positioned for use with bungee cords to mount stage bottles sidemount. A series of additional holes along the outer edges of the backplate provide various options for mounting lights, drysuit inflation bottles, lift bags and other accessories.
The 5 cm harness webbing slots run along this backplate to accommodate a Basic, Deluxe or Transplate-style harness. A 5 cm slot at the bottom centre of the plate allows the use of any crotch strap up to 5 cm wide. Weighing 2.45 kg for the short model, stainless steel backplates are a popular choice for divers seeking a more even distribution of ballast weight.
