It was one day, on the bike, when Ermanno Alberti came up with the idea of covering the handlebars with a thicker and softer tape, with greater grip and much more comfort.

The problem of how to cover the entire handlebar taking into account its curvature, was solved with the invention of tapes with decreasing thicknesses from the center to the edges.
Ermanno''s father, Antonio, was a bicycle saddle manufacturer, so Ermanno went to work in the testing lab. In 1975, he and his wife Rosita created La Spirale snc, the company that still produces the Bike Ribbon brand. In their first fairs they made contact with the big bicycle manufacturing companies, who were always looking for products in personalized colors and styles.

To meet the needs of the market, Ermanno created the first handlebar tapes with striped, geometric and other designs. Joint projects with professional manufacturers and teams, including several champion drivers, led to incredible advances in innovation and customization.
