The goal in development is to improve braking performance compared to the original brake disc. EBC uses HPSR steel with a low carbon content, which has an 18% higher coefficient of friction. This steel is much more resistant to rust than cast steel. In addition, the entire surface is protected with a 3 micron thick layer of zinc, which wears off in the area of the contact patch of the brake pad already during braking. Only in this area can a slight flash of rust form after a long period of use.
The brake discs are drilled in the shape of a bird's cage so that as few holes as possible can be used and at the same time optimize the cleaning of the brake disc from rainwater and brake dust. The fewer holes, the better the braking performance in the wet and the less wear.
