Complete floats, very complex and expensive to manufacture, offer decisive advantages when it comes to braking. The brake ring, which is sawn, drilled and ground from forged HPSR steel bars, can freely expand without deformation even after repeated emergency braking, for example when going down mountain passes. Here, too, the low carbon content of the HPSR steel used has proven its worth as it ensures very few structural changes to the steel under the constant thermal stress of heating and cooling the brake disc in rough road use. An EBC fully floating brake disc is always a significant safety gain.
