Objetivo en el desarrollo es mejorar el rendimiento de frenado en comparación con el disco de freno originales. EBC utiliza acero HPSR con un bajo contenido de carbono, que tiene un mayor coeficiente de fricción en un 18%. Este acero es mucho más resistente a la corrosión que el acero fundido. Además, toda la superficie con una capa gruesa de cinc de 3 micras está protegido, que ya erosiona en el área de la zona de contacto de la almohadilla al decelerar. Sólo de esta zona de la superficie de óxido de luz pueden formar en la vida útil prolongada.
Los discos de freno están perforados en las alas de un pájaro del diseño que conformarse con tan pocos huecos como sea posible con una óptima limpieza del disco de freno de agua de lluvia y polvo de los frenos. El menor número de orificios se proporcionan, mejor será el rendimiento de frenado en húmedo y menor la desgaste.
